A successful former amateur boxer, Gary started boxing at 14 years old for Kingston ABC. Becoming an elite boxer, boxing for London and across the globe, and winning titles at different weights. He also boxed an Olympic gold medalist & future World Champion, James Degale. Gary uses his 30 years experience to now coach both children & adults. He is dedicated in his belief boxing not only provides fitness but also improved mental health, respect, discipline, and a tool to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime.
Ben started boxing at the age of 12. He was always happy to be at the boxing gym and the sport helped him keep focused and on the right path. He had a long and varied amateur career including school boy finalist many years back!! Ben has been a coach for over 8 years and has helped many kids & youths develop their own love for the sport.
James boxed for many years reaching elite level throughout his amateur career, He has been a coach for Moor Lane and The Academy for 10 years, training many kids including both his own boys. James is extremely passionate about the
grass roots of amateur boxing and his experience and coaching is an asset to our team.
Ralph boxed as an amateur throughout the 1970s and 1980s boxing for Hogarth and Kingston ABC. He was taught and coached by Freddie Barr and Kevin Hickey MBE. Ralph represented his country boxing for England, getting to the prestigious ABA finals. Coaching since 2011 for amateurs and pros, Ralph is a valuable addition to our coaching team.
Matthew boxed for Kingston ABC for 25 years as an amateur and professionally, under his father and coach Freddie Barr, the all England coach with Kevin Hickey MBE. Winning the School Boy and Junior ABA titles, Matt also represented England on multiple occasions as a junior. Following in his, and his father’s footsteps is Matthew’s 2 sons, Ethan and Freddie.
Stuart boxed as amateur for about 20 years for Woking ABC. As well as working full time and coaching for the Academy, Stu also runs his own fitness and boxing centre. He specialises working with recovering addicts and people suffering with mental health disorders. Stu currently coaches our beginner and junior classes.
Chris has had a long and varied boxing career having boxed in Northern Ireland, with Army Boxing and finally The Academy. After retirimg from amateur boxing, his love & dedication for the sport encouraged him to embark on an England Boxing Coaching course. Chris is now passing on his knowledge and skills to the next generation of boxers.
Eddie embarked on the England Boxing Coaching program after his 3 boys joined the club back in 2023. Watching and encouraging his boys from the side-lines encouraged him to pick up the pads and join in with training our junior classes as well as helping his own boys.
Danielle has been with the club since her boys started boxing for The Academy in early 2021. She took on responsibility of managing the day-to-day running of the club, including all admin and organising trips away. Danielle is keen to push the club forward with the coaches to offer more community services and hopefully a second floor for our existing premises.
